Stake Your Claim

This morning as I landed in Charlotte, NC and was awaiting my connecting flight to Saint Louis, I saw a sign stating that I should "stake my claim" in North Carolina. I had read earlier this morning about wells, and God birthed something in my heart to share with you.

Wells were dug to stake one's claim on a the land proving ownership.

Battles have been fought over wells.

A well was vitally necessary and was also a sign of wealth.

Wells provided life-sustaining water to those who dug them.

Now for the punch-line...

Jesus said, "Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." (John 7:38 ESV)

When we are born again, Jesus "digs" a well in our hearts staking His claim of ownership in our lives.

He fought the hardest battle ever to provide us with this well - the battle on Golgotha!

While we may remain poor by society's standards, with this well of living water flowing in our lives, we are eternally wealthy!

His well doesn't just sustain life, the water from this well IS life!

No matter where you are in life today, remember, God's love is greater than Satan's hate. If you are born again, you are not your own - you are the property of He who has staked His claim in your life.

And while you thank Him for providing you with life more abundantly, remember this - the most important aspect of well was to pass it on to the next generation and keep the cycle of life going. You are called upon to pass on this Apostolic Truth to someone else! Share with them a drink of water so that they too will never thirst again.

Enjoy your well today!

The God of.......

As I was reading through Romans the other day, a couple of verses stood out to me that showed a new realm of who God is in my life. Those verses inspired deeper study and I want to share in this blog a little of who God is.

The following things is not a comprehensive list - there are more - but it is a good start at showing all that He is God of...

  1. God of all grace - 1 Peter 5:10
  2. God of peace - Hebrews 13:20 & 1 Thessalonians 5:23
  3. God of all comfort - 2 Corinthians 1:3
  4. God of love - 2 Corinthians 13:11
  5. God of hope - Romans 15:13
  6. God of endurance and encouragement - Romans 15:5
  7. God of the living - Luke 20:38
  8. God of salvation - Habakkuk 3:18
  9. God of recompense - Jeremiah 51:56
  10. God of justice - Isaiah 30:18
  11. God of the whole earth - Isaiah 54:5
  12. God of heaven - Psalm 136:26
  13. God of my praise - Psalm 109:1
  14. God of vengeance - Psalm 94:1
  15. God of my life - Psalm 42:8
  16. God of glory - Psalm 41:13
I challenge you to look these up, and find more on your own. Highlight them, underline them, and if necessary, memorize them. When we preachers say, "He's all in all" this is partly where we get this saying. God is everything to everybody every time!

He is God alone!

Isaiah 37:16 (ESV)
O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, who is enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.

He is God of all flesh, and nothing is too hard for Him!

Jeremiah 32:27 (ESV)
Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?

TTYO

Have you ever heard (or said) the phrase, "The grass is greener over there?"

It's a metaphor we use to express that we think somebody else is getting a better lot in life.

We think or say things like:

...they're blessed and I'm not.

...she got dealt a better hand than I did.

...if only I had his luck.

...yea, but if they were my parents, I would be better off too.

And so on and so forth.

But today, in this blog, I have something to offer you that will help you with the grass on your side of the fence!

It's the amazing new "Green Grass Grower" with a new ingredient... TTYO! (Tend To Your Own). When you use Green Grass Grower with TTYO, you will get the luscious lawn you've been dreaming of!

First let me tell you that the "TTYO" tidbit was borrowed from an Adventures in Odyssey, and secondly, all humor aside, it makes perfect sense.

If someone's grass is greener, it just means they're spending time working it to make it that way.

Unfortunately in North America today, we want things handed to us. We want everything on credit and we want it now. We've appeased our flesh, giving it the conveniences it thinks it needs. And then when someone else has "greener grass" we covet their "lawn." It really is time to TTYO - tend to your own!

Paul gives us great understanding as to how this happens...

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. (Philip. 4:11 KJV)

Contentment is a learned behavior! Consider how these other translations state the same verse:

I am not complaining about having too little. I have learned to be satisfied with whatever I have. (Philip. 4:11 CEV)

...I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. (Philip. 4:11b ESV)

...I've learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. (Philip. 4:11b MsgB)

...I have learned to be satisfied with the things I have and with everything that happens. (Philip. 4:11b NCV)

Paul knew how to use TTYO to make his grass greener.

I remember traveling to Manuas, Brazil in the summer of 1991. It was my graduation gift, and it would forever change my life. I was not born to a wealthy family, and had to work hard to raise the money to go on the trip. I was able to take $500.00 in spending money and felt like a millionaire.

Bro. Bennie DeMerchant (the missionary) welcomed us to his heartbeat for God - the country of Brazil. On our first full day in Brazil, he happened to ask me how much spending money I had, and when I told him, he then told me that I was carrying more money for pleasure than what 98% of Brazilians make in a year's salary.

My heart skipped a few beats and my mind raced as I pondered on what he said. Then after being in church with them, and watching them out-worship me, I was convicted beyond description. I also learned that the vast majority of them own two sets of clothes. While one is on their body, the other is hanging out to dry - they wash one while wearing the other.

While they were poor economically, and I had more clothes in my suitcase then ten Brazilians, they were not poor in spirit or The Spirit!

Today, in this blog, I want to encourage you to TTYO and like Paul, learn to be content.

My wife informs me often that it's the "little" things I do for her that make our relationship stronger. I could max out a credit card and take her on a cruise, or fly to Paris, or some other place and thing, but I can also learn to be content with what I have and make the most of it.

Last night, I enjoyed some time with Brooklyn - playing Clue, playing catch, and jumping on a trampoline. It only cost me my time, but our families spell love, T-I-M-E, and memories were made that I could never buy with all the money in the world.

Enjoy your family today.

Go roll down a hill and laugh like a crazy person.

Sit on the porch tonight and gaze at the stars.

When other people's grass looks greener, get out your bottle of "Green Grass Grower" with special formula, TTYO, and you'll be amazed at how green your own grass is within just hours.

It's time to pray!

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV)

Prayer is not an option; it is an imperative.

Our neighborhoods, communities, and nation are falling further from God everyday. Sin celebrates it's pleasure on the TV screen, over the internet, in the malls, on the radio, and up and down our streets. Hell has center stage in our world right now.

BUT there is hope!

1) If my people who are called by my name...

We are His people and we are called by His name! it's time to answer the call - notice the "if" in the verse. It's the biggest little word in the English vocabulary. A lot hinges on "if" and in this case, the "healing" of our land.

Will you answer the call?

Will you allow God to disturb your sleep and intercede through you?

Do you consider yourself to be a part of His people, called by His name?

2) Humble themselves and pray...

Talk is cheap and plans can be changed way too easily these days. What the church needs is ACTION and UNCTION!

Prayer is humbling, especially intercessory prayer. Are you willing to humble yourself and pray? Are you willing to be the vessel that God can use for His glory?

3) And seek my face...

All too often in prayer, we seek His hand. We want this, need that, and wouldn't mind having those as well. But the type of prayer that needs to go up from the heart of the Church is prayer that seeks His face!

Oh that we would stop giving God our wish list, and instead ask Him what His prayer request list is? What do You want me to pray for God? What is Your will for me to pray today?

4) And turn from their wicked ways...

It's easy to consider the pedophile, rapist, child molester, and murderer as wicked, but what about our wicked ways? Gossip, lying, bearing false witness, taking His name in vain, sowing discord, looking upon a women and lusting after her, etc! Or how about this - seeing a need, but not doing anything about it! That's wicked too!

God help us to pray like Isaiah, "WOE IS ME!" I can't answer for you, but as for me, I want God to take a coal from the fire and purify and purge me!

5) THEN I WILL hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land...

We are not waiting on God; He is waiting on us!

Will you answer the clarion call today?

Will you PUSH - pray until something happens?

Will you travail and intercede?

Will you MAKE time for prayer?

Will you stand in the gap for your neighbors and loved ones?

Those who answer yes will spend time and energy, and will feel "spent." But the reward of obedience far outweighs the guilt of inaction!

I will see you in the prayer room friend...
