Job or Ministry?

I came across the following comparison the other day and felt to share it:

  • If you are doing it because no one else will, it's a job. If you are doing it to serve the Lord, it's a ministry.
  • If you are doing it just well enough to get by, it's a job. If you are doing it to the best of your ability, it's a ministry.
  • If you will do it only so long as it doesn't interfere with other activities, it's a job. If you are committed to staying with it, even when it means letting go of other things, it's a ministry.
  • If you quit because no one praised you or thanked you, it was a job. If you stay with it even when no one seems to notice, it's a ministry.
  • If you do it because someone else said it needs to be done, it's a job. If you do it because you are convinced it needs to be done, it's a ministry.
  • It is hard to get excited about a job. It is almost impossible not to get excited about a ministry.
  • People may say, "Well done," when you do your job. The Lord will say, "Well done," when you complete your ministry.
  • An average church is filled with people doing jobs. A great church is filled with people involved in ministry.

I beleive Solid Rock Worship Center is a great church where many are actively involved in ministry. You must examine yourself, though, and answer for yourself.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:12 (KJV) - For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

There is a ministry for everyone in the church. Especially since ministry DOESN'T just mean what happens behind a pulpit.

What can you be a part of?

Where can you become actively involved?

Who can you help?

If you're serious about ministry, Email me and I will help you develop your gifts and talents for use in the Kingdom of God.

Blessings to you and yours.

The Fear of the Lord

What can be learned from the fear of the Lord? Does it mean to be afraid of God? No! It means to reverence Him above everything else. And there is a wealth of wisdom we gain from knowing more about the fear of the Lord.

In this blog, I will point out to you the benefits of the 14 passages in Proverbs that propagate the purpose of the fear of the Lord:

Proverbs 1:7 (KJV)
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 2:3-5 (KJV)
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; [4] If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; [5] Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

Proverbs 9:10 (KJV)
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

  • The starting line for knowledge is the fear of the Lord.
  • You are never too old to learn something new.
  • My grandpa Moudy used to say, "If you ain't learning; you're already dead."
  • Search after the fear of the Lord like you some do for money.
Proverbs 1:29 (KJV)
For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:
  • The fear of the Lord has to be chosen.
  • Unfortunately, some hate the knowledge of God. The fool says in his heart, "No God."
Proverbs 8:13 (KJV)
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
  • Hate the sin; love the sinner.
  • The fear of the Lord produces a hatred for those things that are contrary to God and His holy attributes.
  • The fear of the Lord gives me strength to remain pure.
Proverbs 10:27 (KJV)
The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
  • A long and fruitful life is promised to those that fear the Lord.
Proverbs 14:26 (KJV)
In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
  • The fear of the Lord gives me confidence.
  • When I would be afraid, the fear of the Lord provides me refuge.
Proverbs 14:27 (KJV)
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
  • Some seek the fountain of youth, but the fear of the Lord provides a fountain of life.
  • After all, He came to give me abundant life.
Proverbs 15:16 (KJV)
Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
  • Being eternally wealthy is far greater than being earthly wealthy.
  • After all, money isn't everything; it's just president's painted on paper.
Proverbs 15:33 (KJV)
The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

Proverbs 22:4 (KJV)
By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.
  • The greatest leader is a humble one.
  • The fear of the Lord is not only the beginning of wisdom, but also the instructor.
  • Faithfulness in small things is no small thing.
Proverbs 16:6 (KJV)
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
  • The fear of the Lord gives me power to be purged from the presence of evil.
Proverbs 19:23 (KJV)
The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
  • Satisfying life comes from the fear of the Lord.
  • As I abide in Him and He in me, I bring forth fruit pleasing to my Father.
Proverbs 23:17 (KJV)
Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long.
  • It's quite fitting that the last verse mentioning the fear of the Lord in Proverbs deals with envy.
  • It's interesting because the last of the 10 Commandments is about NOT coveting.
  • The fear of the Lord teaches me contentment.

I challenge you to study further into the depth of truth found in the fear of the Lord. Learn to reverence Him like you never have before. Learn to trust Him completely. Learn to rely and depend on Him for everything. You will never go wrong fearing the Lord. Acts 9:31 detail some great things the church experiences from walking in the fear of the Lord.

Acts 9:31 (KJV)
Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
