What Does God Want From You?

Often we express those things we want from God, but have you ever considered what God wants from you?

I have desires from God; we all do. I desire forgiveness when I repent. I desire hope when discouragement comes. I desire peace in the midst of my storm. I desire authority when I speak in His name. I desire an answer when I go to Him in prayer.

But today, as I was reading His Word, a portion of Scripture “jumped off the page” and I realized that God desires certain things from me too.

"And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good." Deuteronomy 10:12-13 (NKJV)

Here are the things that God desires of me:

To fear the Lord...

  • The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Read through the Psalms and Proverbs and highlight every reference to “fear the Lord” and you will have a fresh understanding of the benefits of “fearing the Lord.”

To walk in all His ways…

  • John declared, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” And notice – we don’t just walk in some of the ways… we walk in ALL His ways.

To love Him…

  • I can love Him because He first loved me. He loved me when no one else did or would. He loved while I was still a sinner; in fact, He died for me while I was still a sinner. It’s so easy to love Him. There is no excuse not to love Him.

To serve with all your heart and soul…

  • Every time I read a verse with these words in them, my heart begins to sing this song…

This is my desire; to honor You
Lord with all my heart, I worship You
All I have within me, Lord I give You praise
All that I adore is in You

Lord I give You my heart
    I give You my soul
    I live for You alone
    Every breath that I take
    Every moment I’m awake
Lord have Your way in me

To keep His commandments and statutes…

  • It’s easy to keep the commandments when you’re in love with the Commander! Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep my commandments.” I love His Word, which are His commandments and statutes. I abide in His Word and His Word abides in me. (See John 15:1-8)

Are you willing to give God want He wants from you?

I am…
